The route follows the old vineyard routes, which were made and used by the Trappist monastic order (the order was known for winemaking, agriculture, cheesemaking…).
In a 4-hour long walk, you will see the cultural sights of Brestanica along the recreational hiking trail. The route starts in the square under the church of St. Peter and Paul and takes you to Turn castle, Sotelsko, Sremič, Grmada, the church of St. Dečaka, Church of St. and finally Rajhenburg Castle, home of the Trappists from 1881 to 1941.
The Trappist order came from France and was known for its strict discipline. But they were also good, knowledgeable winemakers, farmers, farmers and later even chocolatiers. In the short time that they were present in the region, they greatly influenced the area and its economy through their activities. Is there even a cheese named after them, Trappist?
This is how this path was created, for memory and reflection, of course in the company of good food and wine 🙂
